Review: REN EverCalm Overnight Recovery Balm

A few months ago, I saw one of my favorite YouTube beauty gurus raving about the REN EverCalm Overnight Recovery Balm. She said it was a godsend for dry skin, and had saved her skin in the cold winter months. Consider my interest piqued.

Since I have dry, sensitive, acne-prone skin, the EverCalm Overnight Recovery Balm sounded right up my alley. Also, I've been a fan of REN for years - their ClearCalm Replenishing Gel Cream is my Holy Grail moisturizer and I've repurchased it dozens of times. Their brand uses clean ingredients and they have designated product lines for different skin types and concerns, which makes it easy to find what will work best for you.

Now that I've been using the Overnight Recovery Balm for almost 3 months, I'm ready to share my review.

My Review

Application

The REN EverCalm Overnight Recovery Balm is just that - a balm. This was actually the first balm I've ever used, and I was pleasantly surprised by how nice it applied to the skin. You only need a small amount to get a good dose of hydration. I would take a dime-sized amount, warm it up between my fingers, and pat it into my skin.

The texture is like a solidified oil, and you can definitely feel it on your skin when it's there - though not in a bad way. I apply this at night and by the time I wake up in the morning, the product has sunk in and there's no residue left. It also has a soothing scent that I can't quite put my finger on, but it's nice and non-irritating.

Packaging

This balm comes in a small glass jar, which is not necessarily the most hygienic (you have to dip your fingers into the jar to get the product out, which could lead to contamination) but I can't think of another way to package it - oh well.

Results

The Overnight Recovery Balm is definitely the most moisturizing product I have in my collection. It's far more moisturizing than my usual rosehip seed oil, and even more moisturizing than the Drunk Elephant Virgin Marula Oil. It's soothing and hydrating, which feels amazing on dry skin (especially in the brutal New England winter). It didn't break me out and left my face feeling plump and glowy in the morning. It's the perfect winter night treatment, and I'll definitely be repurchasing once I run out (which won't be for a while - a little goes a long way!)

Bottom line: Will repurchase

This product solidified my love for REN, and I will definitely be trying out some more products from them in the near future!
