Review: Drunk Elephant Lala Retro Whipped Cream

The Lala Retro Whipped Cream was the very first Drunk Elephant product I discovered.

About a year ago, I remember watching some beauty guru on YouTube take out a cute purple and white jar and rave about how amazing this face cream was. What caught my attention first was the pump packaging. "How smart!" I thought. I was hooked even further by its moisturizing claims. I knew immediately that I had to try it out.

But did it live up to the hype?

My Review

Application

The Lala Retro Whipped Cream definitely lives up to its name - it's a lightweight, whipped texture without feeling like a mousse. It definitely has the feeling of a cream, but it isn't heavy or oily. It applies nicely to the skin and sinks in quickly without leaving any residue, so it's fine to wear during the day under makeup or at night. It also has a soothing feeling, so it's good for sensitive or irritated skin.

Drunk Elephant recommends mixing this cream with the B-Hydra Intensive Hydrating Serum (check out my review of that product). I think that combination would work well for people with extremely dry, parched skin.

Packaging

As I mentioned before, the packaging is initially what sold me on this product. I absolutely adore it - it's cute, it's functional, and it's sanitary. What else could you want from a moisturizer?

Results

The Lala Retro Whipped Cream is geared towards people with dry skin, which is me to a T. I enjoyed how moisturized and plump my skin felt after using this product, and it didn't irritate me or break me out. It's a really solid, all-purpose moisturizer without any bells or whistles.

As to its claims to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, I don't have any of those so I can't really speak to that part. But it definitely does the job of hydrating my dry skin in the frigid New England winter, so I'm happy about that.

Bottom line: Maybe repurchase

I really enjoyed using the Lala Retro Whipped Cream and I might repurchase it next winter. It really depends on what products I'll be loving at that point, which as of right now I don't know. So I'm categorizing this as a "maybe" - for now.

Depending on your skin concerns, this moisturizer might not do quite enough for you. In terms of bang for your buck, you do definitely get a lot of product for $60, which is in the mid-range for Drunk Elephant products. If you're looking for a similar product for less cash, I'd recommend checking out the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream (Sephora).
